Builder Magazine 2008 Watermark Award for Merit, best kitchen in a single-family detached remodel home. Opening up the floor plan was a remodeling priority for an empty nester couple, but there was one small problem: the kitchen wall slated for removal was a conduit for a plumbing line coming down from the second floor. Morey Construction turned the situation into a design plus by tucking the mechanicals neatly inside two decorative columns and a ceiling soffit. In this same vein, a conspicuous drop beam extending from kitchen to family room was integrated into a coffered ceiling that ties the two realms together. It all looks intentional, uncluttered, and seamless.
